Terrible news from Poland
A Siły Powietrzne RP (Polish Air Force) MiG-29 pilot was killed after an unsuccesfull ejection from its plane in the very early hours of 6 July 2018. The Fulcrum came down near Paslek village in the north-east of the country.
The MiG crashed on 02:57hrs (LT) while operating from homebase Malbork. At Malbork the 22. Baza Lotnictwa Taktycznego (22.BLT), 41. Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego (41.elt) is based, operating the MiG-29A, G and GT.
The involved aircraft is MiG-29G serial 4103, a former (East) German aircraft (serial 699 and later 29+16). The cause of the write-off is unknown, strikingly, the aircraft looks fairly intact in the field.
Poland's operational MiG-29 fleet now counts thirty aircraft. Just recently, on 28 December 2017, the Polish Air Force lost its first MiG-29 (MiG-29A serial 67) during the almost 30 years career of the type within the airforce.
