Ein Hubschrauber vom Typ UH-60 Blackhawk der US-Armee ist in Afghanistan rund 20 Kilometer östlich von Bagram abgestürzt. Die Maschine befand nach Angaben des US-Zentralkommandos in Florida auf einem Trainingsflug. Es gebe bisher keine Hinweise darauf, dass sie beschossen wurde. Wie viele Besatzungsmitglieder an Bord waren und ob es Opfer gab, war zunächst nicht bekannt.

USA bestätigen vier Tote bei Hubschrauberabsturz in Afghanistan

(AFP) Beim Absturz eines US-Militärhelikopters in Afghanistan sind alle vier Insassen ums Leben gekommen. Das bestätigte am Freitag ein Sprecher der US-Streitkräfte auf dem Stützpunkt Bagram nahe der Hauptstadt Kabul. Der Hubschrauber vom Typ MH-60 "Blackhawk" sei am Donnerstagabend etwa zehn Kilometer von der Basis entfernt bei einer Routine-Übung abgestürzt. Bislang deute alles auf einen Unfall hin, sagte der Sprecher. Hinweise auf feindlichen Beschuss habe es nicht gegeben.

February 13, 2003 Plane Tumbles Off Deck Of USS Stennis SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A military plane tumbled into the Pacific Ocean during flight training on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Southern California, the Navy reported. The three crew members were rescued. The EA-6B Prowler, based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington, lost its brakes while landing on the USS Stennis just after midnight Tuesday. The crew ejected as the plane rolled off the flight deck.

F-16C ACCIDENT REPORT RELEASED

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. - Air Force investigators have determined engine failure caused an Air Force F-16C aircraft to crash September 11, 2002, during a Basic Surface Attack training sortie.
The F-16C was destroyed upon impact 1,300 feet short of the runway at the Bobby L. Chain Municipal Airport, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The pilot ejected safely and received minor injuries. The aircraft was assigned to the 160th Fighter Squadron, 187th Fighter Wing, Alabama Air National Guard, Montgomery Air National Guard Base, Montgomery, Ala.

According to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Report released today, the primary cause of the accident was the failure of the high pressure turbine (HPT) post, allowing the HPT blades to break free and damage the engine.

In einer Gebirgsjägerdivision muss nicht immer alles gebirgstauglich sein. So gab es seinerzeit in der Bundeswehr mal ein Gebirgspanzerbataillon 8. Auch gab es in der guten alten 1.Gebirgsdivision zeitweise je eine PzBrigade sowie eine PzGrenBrigade. Die 10th Division hat in dieser Richtung leider nicht die Tradition wie die deutsche Gebirgstruppe ( mal schnell ein dreifaches Horrido Joho auf meine Waffengattung) aber von der Ausstattung der US-Division können wir uns ne Scheibe abschneiden. Ich habe die Jungs selber schon an der Geb/WiKaS in Mittenwald gesehen. Das sind Könner auf den Gebiet. Das Haupteinsatzgebiet der GebJgTrp ist das mittlere Hochgebirge. In die oberen Regionen stoßen sowieso nur die Kameraden der Hochgebirgsjägerzüge vor. In diesem Fall haben uns die Amis die luftmobile Kampfweise vorraus.

Kollision von zwei F-15's

Pilots safe after midair collision

03/17/03 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFPN) -- The pilots of two Air Force F-15 Eagles are safe following a midair collision of their aircraft March 17 about 65 miles northeast of here.

One aircraft returned safely to the base while the other crashed on the Nevada Test and Training Range complex. The pilot of the second aircraft ejected and was picked up by rescue crews.

The aircraft and pilots are assigned to the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron here.

A board of Air Force officers will investigate the cause of the accident.

Pilot error deemed cause of T-37 crash

An accident investigation board determined that pilot error caused a mid-air collision Dec. 20 between two Sheppard Air Force Base T-37 aircraft over Oklahoma, officials said.

One of the jets crashed into a wheat field near an elementary school in Grandview, Okla., and the other made it back to Sheppard for a crash landing, officials said. None of the four pilots involved, two instructors and two students, were seriously injured.

The board determined the aircraft were too close when one of them departed from formation in a practice maneuver, according to a press release from the Sheppard public communications office.

The nationality of the two NATO student pilots wasn't released.

The two training jets took off from Sheppard at about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20, according to the media release. The accident occurred about 25 minutes after takeoff.

When the aircraft broke formation, it collided with the second aircraft, according to the media release. The student pilot then determined the aircraft was uncontrollable and made the order for both pilots in the two-seater to eject.

Local authorities picked up the pilots once they safely parachuted back to the ground, the release said. An Army helicopter from Fort Sill, Okla., then transported them back to Sheppard. The other aircraft was able to make it back to Sheppard, but the pilot was forced to land the aircraft without landing gear.

Lt. Col. John Skinner, the chief of public communications at the base, said base officials could handle losing equipment. The safety of the crews comes first.

"Any time we have an accident, we're going to digest it so everyone can learn from it," he said. "We lost two aircraft, but the fortunate thing is we didn't lose people."

As with all military branches, the incident hasn't slowed down the mission, Skinner said. It hasn't stopped the students or instructor pilots from continuing their mission at Sheppard either.

"Both student pilots continue to be in the pilot training program and continue to do well," he said. "The two instructors are continuing to train pilots."

AV-8B Harrier ging baden - Pilot gerettet

Gestern musste sich ein USMC-Pilot bei der Rückkehr von einem Nachtflugstraining im Anflug auf die USS Nassau (LHA 4) aus seiner Harrier herausschiessen.
Pilot wurde durch nen SAR-Hubi des Schiffs gerettet.

CENTRAL COMMAND (NNS) -- Coalition forces successfully rescued two U.S. Navy aviators after their F-14A Tomcat crashed early April 2 due to mechanical failure.

A combat search and rescue team successfully recovered the pilot and radar intercept officer and took them to a coalition air base at approximately 2:50 a.m. (Gulf Time). Current reports indicate neither crew member was seriously injured.

A combat search and rescue team flew a rescue helicopter to recover the downed crew. Full details of the F-14 incident are unknown at this time and are under investigation.

CRASH: USN F-5

NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON, Nev. (NNS) -- A single-seat F-5E Tiger II aircraft from Fighter Squardron Composite (VFC) 13 crashed nine miles south of the Fallon Naval Air Station at approximately 9 a.m. April 18. The pilot, Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Domino, was killed in the crash.
The aircraft was on a routine training flight in the local area and was returning to base when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident is under investigation at this time.
Domino, a '91 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, received his Navy wings of gold from Training Squadron 21 in 1993. He flew F-14 Tomcats with the "Jolly Rogers" of Fighter Squadron 103, twice deploying in support of United Nations missions in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iraq. He was attached to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, Nev., in 1999.
At the time of his death, Domino was a selective Reservist assigned to the Navy's west coast adversary squadron, the "Fighting Saints" of VFC-13, and was also a pilot for Jet Blue airlines.
His awards include two Strike/Flight Air Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, two Armed Forces Service Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and a NATO Medal. He is survived by his parents and three brothers.

Washington (AFP) - Bei einem Hubschrauberabsturz in Irak sind am Montag vier US-Marineinfanteristen ums Leben gekommen. Wie Vertreter des US-Verteidigungsministeriums in Washington mitteilten, gab es "keinen Hinweis auf einen feindlichen Beschuss". Der Hubschrauber vom Typ CH-46 sei in der Nähe der zentralirakischen Stadt Kerbela in einen Kanal oder ein anderes Gewässer gestürzt. Keiner der Insassen habe überlebt. Ein fünfter Soldat sei offenbar bei dem Versuch ums Leben gekommen, die abgestürzten Marines zu retten. Weitere Angaben konnten die Pentagonvertreter zunächst nicht machen.

Air Force Fighter Jet Crashes in North Carolina; Pilots Reported Safe
FOUR OAKS, N.C. June 4 —
An Air Force fighter jet crashed Wednesday afternoon into a forest, but both crew members ejected safely, authorities said. The F-15E Strike Eagle from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base struck the ground and caught fire after the fliers escaped, county Sheriff Steve Bizzell said.
"Both pilots have been located," he said. One crew member suffered leg and other injuries, Bizzell said. Rescue workers had contacted the other flier but had not yet reached him.
The crash site was not near any homes or other buildings, and no injuries were reported on the ground.
The air force base in Goldsboro, about 60 miles southeast of Raleigh, had no immediate comment.

F-16 Crash in Arizona

An Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon jet assigned here crashed about 5:15 p.m. June 10 on the Barry M. Goldwater Range approximately 15 miles south of Gila Bend.

Capt. David O’Malley, an instructor pilot with the 310th Fighter Squadron, safely ejected from the aircraft while on an air-to-ground training mission. He was examined at the base hospital and is reported to be in good condition.

The aircraft was carrying training ordnance.

O’Malley has more than 1,000 flying hours in the F-16 aircraft.

Wieder F-16 Absturz

6/13/2003 - LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. (AFPN) -- An F-16 Fighting Falcon based here crashed June 13 at about 9:30 a.m. on the Barry M. Goldwater Range about five miles south of Gila Bend.

Capt. Scott Arbogast, an instructor pilot assigned to the 61st Fighter Squadron here, safely ejected from the aircraft.

The mishap marks the second Luke F-16 crash this week at the Goldwater Range. On June 10 at about 5:15 p.m., Capt. David O’Malley, an instructor pilot with the 310th Fighter Squadron, safely ejected from his aircraft before it crashed about 15 miles south of Gila Bend.

Both pilots were flying air-to-ground training missions at the time of their mishaps.

Arbogast was taken to the hospital at Luke for examination and was reported in good condition. He has more than 1,100 flying hours in the F-16.
