"Perhaps the strangest story I ever heard. In 1981 a number of crates containing four F-86K Sabres were discovered in a hangar at the airfield of Hato, Dutch Antilles. The aircraft were in USAF colours, serials being 55-4866, 55-4901, 45-4910 and 55-4913. As it was not possible to find the owner, the four aircraft were used for fire fighting excercises in February 1982. As the identities of the Sabres are known, we know that these were four German Air Force aircraft, those which were delivered but never flew in German colours (due to the lack of pilots by that time). After withdrawal from use 47 surviving German Sabres were delivered to the air force of Venezuela in 1966. But other reports give a number of 51 delivered aircraft. Is it possible that these four Sabres were destinated for Venezuela too, to serve as a source for spare parts? In that case they never reached their destination!"
Martin
