CREW ALERTNESS MONITOR
The crew alertness monitor is designed to generate alerts when crew activity has not been detected by the FMC for a period of 37 minutes.
The FMC continuously monitors switch action on the
- MCP,
- EFIS control panel,
- EICAS control panel,
- CDUs, and
- VHF/HF push-to-talk switches.
When the predefined time elapses after the last switch action was detected, the EICAS advisory message PILOT RESPONSE is displayed.
If there is still no switch action after a brief time, the EICAS caution message PILOT RESPONSE is displayed.
If there is still no switch action, the EICAS warning message PILOT RESPONSE is displayed.
The PILOT RESPONSE message is no longer displayed after pushing any monitored switch. The following activity switches, knobs, or keys, will prevent alerts but do not clear alerts:
- AP Disengage Bar unless it forces a mode change,
- knobs on the AFDS Mode Control Panel when the associated window is blank,
- bright/dim knobs,
- DH/MDA Selector,
- DH/MDA Control,
- DH/MDA Switch,
- MENU key on CDU's,
- CDU key's pressed when a subsystem (ACARS, SATCOM, CMC, ...) other then the FMC is logged on.
The PILOT RESPONSE message is inhibited below 20.000 ft.
