"During the war, Britain needed to keep in contact with neutral Sweden for such materials as precision-machined ball bearings and machine-tool steel. BOAC initially operated a pair of Lockheed Lodestars for this route, but the performance of the Lodestar resulted in it only being flown in bad weather and clouds to protect it from fighter interception. BOAC sought a replacement, and after refusing the government's suggestions of Whitleys and Albermarle, the Mosquito was selected. The first BOAC Mosquitos were B. Mk. IVs, followed by FB. Mk. VIs. With the Mosquito, interception by the Luftwaffe was unlikely, and the lines of communication remained open between England and Sweden. G-AGFV is seen in standard RAF camouflage, the only additions being its civil registration and a large red/white/blue horizontal stripe on the fuselage."

British Overseas Airways Corporation:
"From late summer 1939, British Airways Ltd. (BAL) maintained a weekly service out of Perth in Scotland, to Stavanger, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki, using three Junkers Ju. 52/3m airliners. This service was of great importance for the British, Sweden being a major source of high grade ball bearings, urgently required for the production of vital war munitions. Diplomats also needed to travel to and fro and German propaganda in the Nordic countries had to be countered by suitable British material.
From 15 March 1940 the service was transferred from BAL to British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). Following the Soviet attack on Finland flights to Helsinki were suspended, the services to Norway and Denmark also being halted after these two countries fell into German hands. The need for this service remained great however, the operation of such a service between Britain and Sweden becoming a requirement of top priority by the middle of 1940. The service was also a matter of great importance for the Norwegians, the number of Norwegian refugees in Sweden wishing to travel to Britain and aid in the fight against Germany growing steadily..."
