Hier ein Video der niederländischen F-16 bei Volkel. Ab sofort ist die 313 Squadron keine einsatzbereite F-16-Einheit mehr. Das Geschwader wird im Januar mit dem Umbau auf die F-35A beginnen.

During this cold winter day a Chinook of the Royal Netherlands Air Force was performing some sling action somewhere on the GLV4. The helicopter made almost for 2,5 hours sling flights. The helicopter involved was the D-106 which is also know as the "Porcupine". The helicopter belongs to the no 298 Squadron which is based at Gilze-Rijen where it is part of the Defense Helicopter Command (DHC). Air Mobile Forces were involved to attach the sling loads to the hook of the helicopter. The training started with the lifting of small vehicles and ended eventually by lifting multiple heavier vehicles at the same time.

During this video the 12th infantry Battalion Air Mobile (AASLT) of the Dutch 11th Air Mobile Brigade (11LMB) is dropped in the landing zone (LZ) near Rucphen. The 12th Infantry Battalion is also known as the Regiment van Heutsz and has a long history in the Royal Netherlands Army. The drop off was done with two CH-47D Chinook helicopters of the Royal Netherlands Air Force 2098 Squadron from Gilze-Rijen Air Base. Both helicopters landed on a small grass field simultaneous in a pretty confined area.

The 11th Engineer Company Air Mobile is based in Schaarsbergen near Arnhem and consists of engineer explorers, advanced search teams, engineer platoons and a construction machine group. The company performs engineering tasks such as mobility and counter-mobility support. Mobility support means that the engineers ensure that their own troops can move undisturbed by, for example, detecting improvised explosives (IEDs), clearing mines or building bridges. In counter mobility, the engineers disrupt the movement of the enemy by, for example, constructing obstacles. The engineer company operates integrated with the infantry battalions. A special feature: the engineer explorers can also dive, making them particularly suitable for use on, in and around the water. The engineer reconnaissance groups and the advanced search teams are assigned to the EARS platoon (Engineers Advanced Reconnaissance and Search).

On May 18, 19 & 20th 2021, the exercise Weapon Instructor Standardization took place. This training was organized by the Dutch Defense helicopter Command (DHC). The goal of this training is to keep the skills annually up to date as a Weapons Instructor (WI) for the DHC helicopter crews. The training took place on two different landing zones in the Maas and Waal area near the villages of Rijswijk and Wijk bij Duurstede in the Dutch Betuwe area.

Helicopters crews were selected in the recent past to become weapon instructors by participating in the Helicopter Weapon Instructor Course (HWIC). Helicopter crews of the 298 Squadron flying the CH-47D/F Chinook and of the 300 Squadron flying the AS532U2 Cougar, consists of both pilots and load masters. For the AH-64D Apache crews of the 301 Squadron only pilots are selected as they don’t have load masters on board. The goal is that the qualified weapon instructors will train their colleagues at their own squadrons. During this training one mission is flown per day. The crews will make a tactical landing in a field and experience an enemy treat at this location. During this training it was the first time that the CH-47F MYII CAAS Chinook took part in a training like this in the Netherlands. Also this is a nice milestone for the 298 Squadron which started to fly these brand new Chinooks from Gilze-Rijen just a few weeks before this training. Also PC-7 training aircraft assigned to 131 (EMVO) Squadron from Woensdrecht took part in the training. The PC-7 Turbo Trainers had to attack the participating helicopter formations. This threat was an extra dimension in the training for the helicopter crews.

At the Dutch airbase Leeuwarden, the RNLAF said goodbye to the F-16 Fighting Falcon on July 5th 2021. the aircraft is also nicknamed "Viper". The Fly-Out was scheduled for July 1st, but was delayed due to a crash at Leeuwarden of a Belgian Air Force F-16 during the Weapon Instructor Coarse (WIC). The Dutch F-16s finally left Leeuwarden Air Base on July 5th after a period of 42 years at this Frisian air base. The last four based F-16s from Leeuwarden would definitely leave from the northern airbase.

Leeuwarden was the first airbase of the Royal Netherlands Air Force to receive the F-16 Fighting Falcon in 1979. The 322 Squadron was the first unit to use the type within the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) and is now the first unit in the Air Force to replace the type for the F-35A Lightning II. This is a huge milestone for the Air Force, as the F-16 was the backbone of the Royal Netherlands Air Force for many years. The F-16 took part in many conflicts in Dutch service as part of an international coalition. Famous deployments were those in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

For the "F-16 Fly-Out" the unit painted a few aircraft in the original colors of the Frisian airbase from the 1980s. A total of four aircraft were painted, three of which had the original Frisian markings of the based squadrons. These planes are; the J-509 bearing the full color badges of 322 Squadron nicknamed "Polly", the J-144 bearing the full color badges of 323 Squadron nicknamed "Diana" and finally the J-201 bearing the full color badges of the Transition and Conversion Department (Transitie & Conversie Afdeling, TCA). The fourth aircraft, the J-871, carries the dragon on the tail, which is the symbol of Leeuwarden Air Base.

When the aircraft left, they left Leeuwarden for the last time after 42 years. The fighter aircraft landed at their new home base Volkel Air Base in the south of the Netherlands. Before this landing took place, the four F-16s made a flight along almost all Dutch military airfields to say goodbye to the Leeuwarden F-16s. The last F-16 flights are planned in 2024, when Volkel will also have its "Viper Varewell" and the F-16 at the Royal Netherlands Air Force will retired from service.
