Blacklick OH August 30th, 2005 – Traveling 10,000 miles cross country without using gasoline in his car tank, David Ramey arrived back in Blacklick on August 17, 2005. Environmental Scientist, Agriculturalist and Inventor, Ramey drove his unmodified 1992 Buick on a 10,000-mile-Demonstration –Run without using gasoline in his tank, but instead using Butanol, a fuel alcohol.
Butanol has lived up to all of Ramey’s expectations in performance, and surpassed all the minimum emission standards in 10 states at the EPA Emission Testing Stations where he stopped. EPA Referees were astounded by the outstanding results of the tests. EPA Test results in the 10 states duplicated the results at the Ohio EPA, Springfield test facility: With over 60,000 miles on his Buick, Butanol reduced Hydrocarbons emissions by 95%, Carbon Monoxide to 0.0%, and Oxides of Nitrogen by 37%.
Ramey says “With the rising cost of gas, the public wants something today that will stabilize the price of fuel and replace gasoline in their cars. Folks across the nation were absolutely amazed by how simple it was to change the fuel to Butanol!”
“Now I totally believe in Butanol!” says Ramey. “It is a reliable, clean and safe alternative fuel for the future; we’re getting better than 25 miles to the gallon. We need to be making more Butanol now.”
After 6 years of work on a grant from the Dept. of Energy, he has developed an economical method of making Butanol by a fermentation process using corn, biomass or cheese whey. “This demonstration-test-drive was the culmination of my work to demonstrate to my colleagues that Butanol definitely works as a superior alternative fuel to ethanol,” said Ramey. “I can derive more energy from a bushel of corn, which costs less to process, and which replaces gasoline gallon-for- gallon as has been shown by this trip from coast to coast.”
