Iran modernisiert seine Streitkräfte.
Der Iran plant, seine Streitkräfte mit russischer Hilfe zu modernisieren. Vorgesehen sei vor allem die Modifizierung der bereits im iranischen Arsenal befindlichen russischen Kampfflugzeuge, Kampf- und Schützenpanzer sowie der Kauf von modernen Luftabwehrsystemen vom Typ S-300 und Top-M-1*. Die Moskauer Presse berichtet, dass das geplante Waffengeschäft einen Umfang von rund 1,6 Milliarden Dollar habe.

Neue Irakische Luftwaffe
Einem "Fact-Sheet" der Coalition Provisional Authority zufolge wird es eine neue irakische Luftwaffe geben, welche auch reale militärische Fahigkeiten besitzen wird.
Die Ausstattung wird sich vorerst auf:
- eine Squadron leichter Aufklärungsflugzeuge (Ende 2004), vier sollen in Basra stationiert, anderer später evtl. auch in Kirkuk),
- 6 C-130B Transportflugzeuge (April 2005) und
- 16 UH-1 Hubschrauber (April 2005) beschränken.
Zwei der C-130 wird man von Jordanien kaufen dürfen, ebenso 6 UH-1H (stationiert auf Tadji Air Base), so daß sie schon zum Oktober bzw Juli 2004 verfügbar sind.
Im Kern wird auf fliegendes und technisches Personal aus der "alten" Luftwaffe zurückgegriffen. Die ersten 100 Trainees werden zur Zeit in Jordanien eingewiesen. Ebenso hofft man auch noch, daß die verbliebenen und nicht beschädigten An, Il, Mi, MiG, Su und Mirage den Kern der neuen Luftwaffe für den Anfang bilden könnten.

As the coalition marched closer to Baghdad last year, the now ousted Iraqi leader instructed his air force generals to take some of their planes to the desert and bury them, according to senior military coalition officials.
"They hoped that if the regime came back somehow they would unbury the aircraft and fly them away, but the problem was that they were structurally damaged beyond repair," said a coalition military official on condition of anonymity.
But the coalition now hopes that many of the Russian MiGs and French Mirages that made up the backbone of the former regime's air force can form the nucleus of a new post-Saddam force.
The problem is that the weight of the sand snapped the wings and tails of the aircraft buried in the desert and in addition, many more aircraft were destroyed when US-led forces bombed military bases, according to coalition officials.
The new force is being built from scratch with aircraft purchased from Jordan and former Iraqi air force pilots are being retrained there as well.
"The vision that we started out with was a complete new start for Iraqi aviation where promotion is on merit rather than by favour," said another coalition official.
He said the new force will have the same rank structure as Saddam's air force and will be commanded by a major general, who has yet to be appointed.
Only those ranking colonel or below in the previous air force would be allowed in the new force as "they have not been tainted" by the nepotism and favouritism of the old regime in which only those close to Saddam's Tikriti clan and members of the ruling Baath party were promoted, said the official.
He described Iraqi pilots as "capable" but said that their skills may have eroded as most of them flew an average of only 32 hours a year during the 12-year period between the end of the Gulf War over Kuwait and last year's invasion that ousted Saddam.
By comparison, the average flight time for pilots in the West is 32 hours a month, he added.
The coalition enforced a no-fly zone in northern and southern Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War to stop Saddam's crackdown on the Kurds in the north and on the Shiites in the south.
But a retooled and retrained Iraqi air force will operate in close coordination with coalition air assets as the coalition will continue to play a key role in ensuring Iraq's security after the June 30 restoration of Iraqi sovereignty.
The new Iraqi air force's main task will be to police the country's 3,500 miles (5,600 kilometers) of borders.
The coalition will fund the purchase from Jordan of two C-130B Hercules transport aircraft, which will be operational in October, and a squadron of six UH-1H Iroquois (Huey) helicopters due to go into service in July.
The Iraqi air force will also acquire a squadron of light reconnaisance aircraft which will be operational this summer, with initially four aircraft based in the southern city of Basra, and later additional aircraft possibly based in the northern city of Kirkuk.

WASHINGTON --- Significant progress has been made in restoring the Iraqi Air Force to "real military capability" and in establishing it as "the foundation of a modern air force," according to a fact sheet released by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) April 17.
The CPA predicted the Iraqi Air Force will be an "integral part" of coalition activities in Iraq, and will be working closely with other units on the ground, at sea and in the air to carry out its mission.
Duties will include policing Iraq's borders and conducting surveillance of national assets, according to a CPA press release. The release noted that with over 3,500 miles of border, air-based monitoring is the only practical surveillance method.
CPA projections for the composition of the Iraqi Air Force included:
-- Six C-130B Hercules transport aircraft by April 2005,
-- 16 Iroquois helicopters by April 2005, and
-- A squadron of light reconnaissance aircraft by late summer 2004.
Members of Iraq's former air force were recruited for the new air force, and over 100 trainees currently are receiving instruction at the Royal Jordanian Air Force in Amman, Jordan, according to the fact sheet.
The CPA said the majority of Iraqi aviators will require only "difference training" to learn new equipment, but they also are being instructed on the philosophy of a democratically controlled military. In addition, some senior Iraqi air force staff members will receive training in the United States, and a training course within Iraq has been scheduled for late May.
The new Iraqi Air Force will be commanded by a yet-to-be-named major general who will be stationed at air headquarters in Baghdad.

FACT SHEET: DEVELOPMENT OF THE IRAQI AIR FORCE
The Iraqi Air Force not only represents a real military capability and the foundation of a modern air force, but also indicates the re-emergence of Iraq as an air-capable power with an ability to take its share of security responsibilities under a democratic leadership. The Iraqi Air Force will be an integral part of Coalition efforts, with its activities built into Coalition air plans and working closely with ground, maritime and air units to accomplish its mission.
The Iraqi Air Force's roles will include the policing of international borders and surveillance of national assets. Air capability will allow Iraq to rapidly deploy its developing Army, and with over 3,500 miles of border, aviation is the only practical method of surveillance.
Airplanes: The Iraqi Air Force's long-range tactical airlift capability will be initially supported by two C-130B Hercules transport aircraft, which will be operational in October and based at Baghdad Air Station. The fleet will eventually grow to six aircraft by April of 2005. Each Hercules is capable of transporting 92-troops or 42,000-pounds of freight over a distance of 2,000-miles. Each is manned by a crew of two pilots, a navigator, an air engineer and a loadmaster.
Helicopters: A squadron of six UH-1H Iroquois helicopters will be operational in July and stationed at Tadji Air Base. This fleet will increase to sixteen Iroquois by April of 2005. Each is manned by two pilots and capable of carrying 13-troops at 120-knots over a 180-mile range. Its main tasks are border and coastal patrol, troop transport and search and rescue duties.
Reconnaissance Aircraft: A squadron of light reconnaissance aircraft will be operational later this summer, with four aircraft at Basrah and expanding later, possibly to Kirkuk. This fleet will be tasked with infrastructure and border security duties - reporting problems directly to the appropriate repair and intervention units. The reconnaissance aircraft has yet to be decided upon, but will be a new aircraft and will be operated by two pilots, with Army observers on appropriate missions, able to stay airborne on extended patrol and communicate directly with ground forces.
Personnel: Members of the former air force were recruited to preserve perishable flying and maintenance skills and to also reduce the cost in creating the new Air Force. More than 100 trainees are currently undergoing instruction from the Royal Jordanian Air Force in Amman. As the initial force is established, recruiting efforts will expand as the Iraqi Air Force has also ready established a presence at the Baghdad and Mosul Recruiting Centers. Non-flying specialist will be drawn from a range of backgrounds, with the majority expected to be recruited in or near to the location in which they will finally be employed. In October, once all have been recruited, the force will be nearly 500 strong, with the majority being divided between bases at Tadji and Baghdad.
Training: The majority of the Iraqi Air Force aviators, being former pilots, require only "difference" training to qualify them on their new equipment. However, they are also schooled in the philosophy of a democratically-controlled military. The non-specialist enlisted troops undertake the eight-week basic training course alongside their army colleagues in northern Iraq. Some of the more senior Iraqi Air Force Staff have been selected for overseas training in the United States and an in-country staff course scheduled for late May to prepare selected officers for duties in the Joint and Air Headquarters. The majority of trainees will start their operational service helping to establish the Tadji Air Base and preparing it to receive the helicopter squadron. Following the completion of construction work on the Baghdad Air Station, some of the more experienced staff from Tadji will transfer to Baghdad to teach the incoming new staff and pass on their experience. In addition, Coalition mentoring teams from appropriate specialist areas will assist the Iraqi Air Force in the establishment of the squadrons and bases. In particular they will help to develop safety procedures and standard operating procedures as well as aiding the interface with coalition forces.
Command & Control: The Air Force will be commanded by a Major General (yet to be appointed), who will normally work at the Air Headquarters in Baghdad and act as the Chief of the Defense Staff's senior air advisor. Ich kann mir vorstellen, daß dem Irak die Art, Bewaffnung und Höchstanzahl ihrer Flugzeuge wie einst den Deutschen nach den beiden Kriegen vorgeschrieben wird. Ich kann mir auch nicht vorstellen, daß die unbedingt auf westliche Muster zurück greifen. Gebrauchte Flugzeuge russischer Bauart sind mindestens genauso leicht auf der Welt zu beschaffen und vor allem meist billiger. Die mögen die Amis doch jetzt schon nicht und dann soll denen auch noch amerik. Fluggerät vor die Nase gesetzt werden. Neeee....glaub ich nicht.
Bleibt nur die Frage, wieviel Geld der Irak dafür hat oder auftreiben kann!?!

Hallo Freunde ,
zufällig ist mir beim auspacken meiner Kartons ein Dia in die Hände gefallen welches ich vor langer Zeit in Baghdad gemacht habe. Es sind noch einige mehr von diesem Tag vorhanden, überwiegend Detailaufnahmen (Tarnverlauf u.s.w.) aber auch Gesammtansichten. Wohl eher etwas für den Modellbauer (ich habe meine Irakische Su 25 auch nach den Fotos gebaut), aber auch für die Jet-Fans. Also gebt mir ein wenig Zeit beim herauskramen und freut Euch auf die Fotos die da kommen werden. Als erstes ein kleiner Vorgeschmack.

zufällig ist mir beim auspacken meiner Kartons ein Dia in die Hände gefallen welches ich vor langer Zeit in Baghdad gemacht habe. Es sind noch einige mehr von diesem Tag vorhanden, überwiegend Detailaufnahmen (Tarnverlauf u.s.w.) aber auch Gesammtansichten. habe die restlichen gefunden. Beginnen werde ich mit der Mig 29, weiter geht es dann mit Su 22, Su 25, Mig 27 und Mirage F1. Falls Interesse besteht noch Diverse. Als erstes Mirage F1 vor Adnan 1. Zuerst einmal alle Fotos ohne Kommentar
