"During their Slovakian tour in 1997, one of the team's fighters passed a hard exam that proved the high reliability boasted by the SU-27. During the Air Show in Bratislava, one of the fighters used to land onto the runway with its landing gear retracted. In that flight, the aircraft had missile pylons fitted to the lower surface of the engine ducts. It was these pylons that the fighter used as skis to slide on in a cloud of sparks along the Tarmac as it ground to a halt several hundred metres down the runway. A thorough examination of the SU-27 produced no evidence of significant damage to the plane. Once it was lifted off the ground with the use of a hoist, the fighter had its landing gear extended and was then flown back to Kubinka AFB on its own. It was just the launching pylons that had to be written off."
