Hallo zusammen!
In einem Artikel über die Karriere eines B-26 Marauder-Pilots (Combat Aircraft 11/1998-01/1999) habe ich Folgendes gefunden:
"Our base was Decimomannu Air Field at the southern end of the island of Sardinia. Previously a German air base, “Decimo” was a unique facility that included a dirt field with six parallel, oiled strips, each 8,000 feet long, Takeoffs (made at 30-second intervals) and landings were executed in formation, three abreast." (Hervorhebung von mir)
Frage: Weiß jemand was mit den "geölten Pisten" gemeint ist bzw. warum man offenbar eine Piste einölt?
Vielleicht wird mittels Öl markiert?? Denkbar wäre für mich auch, dass man das Öl zur Unterdrückung von Staub benutzt.
